一向都会花点时间读dreamhost newsletter。今天又发来最新的，注意到了其中的一条：

Volunteer to Get Upgraded First!

If you actually VOLUNTEER to be one of the first moved to the new system
your account will be “upgraded” to unlimited disk and bandwidth, forever.
Of course, it’s not like you’ll use it, and it’s of course subject to our
“unlimited” policy. If you do decide to do it, you’d be a damn fool to
not read the caveats listed there and *follow them*.

起因是Dreamhost升级了它们的系统，如果现在愿意做VOLUNTEER把帐户迁移到新平台，就可以免费升级到不限空间和流量的套餐。其实对我来说200G和Unlimited没啥区别——反正用不完。不过既然可以有更多，为啥不升级呢？其实现在很多家空间服务商都提供了Unlimited的套餐，Dreamhost不算多先进。

我马上就到后台https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=billing.accounts，提示我可以免费升级。点了升级，出来了一些类似警告的东西：

As you may have read .. we are at the beginning of a long process of upgrading our entire shared hosting infrastructure to new servers. Servers that are more powerful, more power-efficient, and more isolated from each other (for better stability)!

It sounds pretty great, no?

Well, it is.. except that the transition is going to be long and will doubtlessly result in various problems along the way.

Which is why we’re looking for volunteers to get moved first!

If you’re interested in having this account moved to the system sooner please read what happens when you click the button below:

• You will be added to a wait list. There is no pre-set time you will be moved… it could happen immediately or after a year!
• This account will be upgraded to unlimited disk and bandwidth immediately and permanently… subject to our unlimited policy!
• There will likely be problems on your account because of the move (the new servers also run a newer version of linux). Please be prepared to befriendly even if something breaks!

Before clicking the button below, please make sure:

• Everybody on your account is using their full email address (not m######) only to check and send email with their mail client.
• Everybody is only ftping/sshing to your domain,and not a server name directly.
• Nobody on your account is using .procmail or .forward files.
• You don’t have /home/.SOMETHING/usernameanywhere in your files at all… you should change it to just: /home/username

So.. still want to be an early-mover?

大意就是选择升级的话，会被加入到一个等待迁移到新系统的列表，而且系统可能会不稳定。迁移时也要注意一些东西，比如用户文件夹路径，这个可能在一些web程序中被使用。

我点了升级，提示成功。回到原来页面，帐户已经是Unlimited了。
